Frequently Asked Questions
Using Warenous
Is there a cost to use your service to find a reliable 3PL warehouse?
NO. There is no cost to use warenous to find a reliable 3PL warehouse.
What are your 3PL standards?
All 3PLs we use are pre-screened to ensure they have 3 key things:
- A good management team
- A gold standard Warehouse Management System
- A track record of reliability
- They have the certifications/accreditations for your product
Have you visited the warehouses?
We have visited over 90% of the warehouses that we recommend but have met with 100% of management teams.
What are your minimum order quantities?
We work with a range of 3PL warehouses and so can find a solution for all businesses both big and small. However, we’ve found that it is often uneconomical to use a 3PL warehouse if you are doing less than 100 orders a month. This number can vary depending on whether you receive bulk orders or single ecommerce orders, so always feel free to reach out.
Do you benefit by recommending one warehouse over another?
NO. There is no commercial benefit to recommend one warehouse over another. We represent you and our sole purpose is to find you the best 3PL warehouse for your business.
How do you ensure I will get the best rates?
Once we have captured your requirements, we run a competitive pitch process with the suitable 3PL warehouses. Each of the 3PLs know that they are competing with others for your business. We also use our experience to check that the rates provided are market competitive.
Can you do modelling of costs?
YES. We provide a paid modelling service that will compare the costs of using the 3PL warehouses for your business over a 12 month period.
Warehouse Capabilities
Can they meet marketplace requirements?
YES. With same day despatch capabilities, all of the 3PLs we work with can meet the requirements of marketplaces.
Some marketplaces i.e. The Iconic, have very late cutoff times for same day despatch, most 3PLs can meet these requirements however it forms part of the brief for them to confirm.
Can I see my orders and inventory levels?
Yes…all of our warehouses provide a portal that allow you to see the status of your orders as well as your inventory levels.
Some are even able to send you notifications when your inventory falls to a certain level.
Will I have to manually add my eCommerce orders?
No…all of the 3PLs we work with can integrate with the major ecommerce carts (i.e. Shopify, Woocommerce) as well as the major ERP and inventory systems such as Netsuite and CIN7.
If you use a bespoke checkout or ERP then it is usually possible to integrate via a third party tool or API.
How do I send in my wholesale orders?
This depends on what works for your business. The majority of 3PLs can accept EDI orders however they also all have a way of uploading .csv files containing orders.
Will my customer receive a tracking number?
Yes….the 3PLs we work with all provide a tracking number to both you and the customer.
For eCommerce orders, this is usually automatically sent back via the shopping cart i.e Shopify
Will I receive an itemised invoice?
Every 3PL bills slightly differently however it is expected that you should receive an itemised invoice of activity/fees.
The costs are not usually itemised for a single order but grouped by activity i.e. Storage, Inbound, Pick/Pack
Can the warehouses do custom packing/kitting?
YES. The majority of the 3PL warehouses we work with can do custom packing or kitting. Different warehouses cost these activities differently however all costs will be provided upfront so there will be no surprises.
Process
What does warenous do for me?
We have an initial call to capture your requirements. We then write a brief and send to relevant 3PL warehouses who we know are reliable and won’t let you down. The warehouses provide us with their proposals which we send straight to you (we don’t change any costs). We will then discuss each of the proposals with you and can then do the optional modelling of costs. Finally, we will organise a physical or virtual warehouse tour.
Do I sign an agreement with warenous?
NO. The only agreement you will need to sign is with the 3PL warehouse once you have chosen your preferred one.
How long does it take to receive proposals from the 3PLs?
You may receive some on the same day but it can take 2-3 days as some of our warehouses tailor their rates specifically for your business rather than using off the shelf rates which can be more expensive.
Can I be involved and talk to the 3PLs earlier in the process?
YES….absolutely. We encourage it if you would like to. Many of our clients prefer us to field the questions from the multiple 3PL warehouses to save them time however it is entirely up to you.
What role does warenous play after I have signed an agreement with a new 3PL?
After you have signed with a 3PL warehouse and are now onboarding, your relationship is with the 3PL warehouse and we will step back. We will always be there if you have any questions however it’s important you build a strong working relationship with the selected warehouse.
3PL Warehouse Operations
What does dimensional or cubic weight mean?
The majority of carriers charge based on the greater of actual (dead) weight or dimensions (cubic) weight. For example, a gold bullion would be charged based on dead weight whereas a pillow or suitcase would be charged based on dimensional (cubic) weight. More information can be found in this blog and we also have a handy calculator here.
Do I need to barcode my product?
In the majority of cases the answer is yes. This is to ensure inventory accuracy and to avoid time wasted by either the 3PL warehouse or yourself trying to track product. By having a barcode, the 3PL can scan the product on arrival and then ensure they are picking the right item for outbound orders. For a more detailed look at barcoding see our blog.
