Andrew was great and very patient as we made several enquiries as we transitioned to a 3PL. Once we finally made the decision, Andrew gave us several options and we relied heavily on his industry experience. Thanks Andrew.

Received fantastic service from this rather unique offer. I had researched 3PL options myself and still ended up proceeding with a 3PL Andrew included in his suggestions. He also went out of his way to provide guidance on comparing the options and helping me realise what's important in such a decision. Have a chat with him and hear first hand the value he adds.

How We Help

Which 3PL is best in Sydney?

There’s no single best 3PL in Sydney. The right warehouse depends on how many orders you ship, the size of your products, where you sell and where your customers are. A warehouse that’s perfect for a 300-order-a-month skincare brand can be the wrong choice, and the expensive one, for a furniture brand shipping pallets to retailers.

Sydney has 3PLs ranging from boutique operators with a handful of eCommerce clients to national networks with hundreds of thousands of square metres. Choosing well means matching your order profile to the right type of 3PL, then comparing total cost (storage, picking, packing and shipping) on the same basis. That’s what Warenous does, for free.

Which type of Sydney 3PL suits your business?

If your business is…The type of 3PL that usually fitsWhat to watch for
Under 500 orders a month, selling on ShopifyBoutique eCommerce 3PL with 10–30 clients and hands-on account managementLarge 3PLs’ monthly minimums and slower onboarding
500–5,000 orders a month, growing fastMid-size multi-client 3PL with strong integrations and peak-season capacityCapacity in Q4 and pick-rate tiers that don’t reward growth
Bulky or heavy goods (furniture, fitness, homewares)Pallet-focused warehouse in Western Sydney with two-person delivery partnersOversize courier surcharges and per-cubic-metre storage
Mostly selling on Amazon3PL experienced in FBA prep, labelling and replenishmentExtra prep fees and inbound appointment rules
Wholesale and retail as well as onlineOmnichannel 3PL with retailer compliance (labelling, EDI, booking)Retailer chargebacks for late or non-compliant deliveries
Food, beverage or health productsFood-safety-certified 3PL (e.g. HACCP) with batch and expiry trackingTemperature-control costs and recall processes

Where are Sydney’s 3PL warehouses?

Most Sydney 3PLs are clustered in two areas, and the location affects both price and delivery speed.

icon/costsaving

Western Sydney

Eastern Creek, Erskine Park, Wetherill Park, Moorebank, Smeaton Grange

Larger, newer warehouses next to the M4 and M7, with lower storage costs and good access to national road freight. Suits higher volumes, bulky goods and brands shipping across Australia.

icon/operations

South Sydney

Botany, Mascot, Alexandria

Close to Port Botany, Sydney Airport and inner-city customers, with higher rents. Suits import-heavy brands, fast metro delivery and smaller boutique operations.

Pallet storage in Sydney typically costs A$3.50–A$5.50 per pallet per week. When comparing storage costs, remember there may also be inbound receiving and putaway charges, as well as outbound charges. We encourage you to request a free estimate based on your specific requirements.

Real Example

How we matched an apparel brand

An online apparel brand shipping about 1,500 orders a month, mostly light satchels under 1kg to customers across Australia, asked us to find a better-value 3PL. We assessed the 3PLs in our network against its 240-product range and order profile, shortlisted 5, and priced each one’s rate card against six months of the brand’s real orders: over 12,000 orders, with every postcode and parcel weight. Total annual cost, including storage, pick and pack and shipping, ranged from approximately A$260,000 to A$334,000. The most expensive quote was 28% higher than the cheapest, a difference of about A$73,000 a year.

The bigger lesson was where that gap came from. The warehousing quotes were within A$23,000 of each other, but shipping costs differed by A$57,000, because shipping made up 60–67% of each 3PL’s total cost. The cheapest storage rate didn’t have the biggest impact on the outcome; the carrier rates did. The brand chose the 3PL that met all its needs and felt like the right cultural fit after a warehouse visit.

What we see in Sydney 3PL quotes

  • Warenous works with 20-plus vetted 3PLs across Sydney, from Botany to Eastern Creek.
  • For the same brand and order profile, the highest quote we see is typically around 28% above the lowest, but it can vary significantly from business to business.
  • Many Sydney 3PLs charge a minimum monthly spend or admin fee, which can make them poor value for smaller brands. The amount depends on the 3PL and how much space it has available.

Sydney 3PL Warehouses - Frequently Asked Questions

Using Warenous

What is the best 3PL in Sydney?
icon/minus dark copy 5 icon/plus dark

There isn’t one best 3PL for everyone. The right choice depends on your order volume, product size, sales channels and customer locations. Warenous compares vetted Sydney 3PLs against your profile and shortlists the ones that fit, free of charge.

There is no cost to use warenous to find the best 3PL warehouse for your business in Sydney.

All of our 3PL partners in Sydney are pre-screened to ensure they have 4 key things:

  • A good management team
  • A gold standard Warehouse Management System
  • A track record of reliability
  • They have the certifications/accreditations for your product

YES, we have. We have visited over 90% of the warehouses we recommend but have met with 100% of their management teams.

We work with a range of 3PL warehouses and so can find a solution for all businesses both big and small. However, we’ve found that it is often uneconomical to use a 3PL warehouse if you are doing less than 100 orders a month. This number can vary depending on whether you receive bulk orders or single ecommerce orders, so always feel free to reach out.

NO. There is no commercial benefit to recommend one warehouse over another. We represent you and our sole purpose is to find you the best 3PL warehouse for your business.

Once we have captured your requirements, we run a competitive pitch process with the suitable 3PL warehouses. Each of the 3PLs know that they are competing with others for your business. We also use our experience to check that the rates provided are market competitive.

YES. We provide a paid modelling service that will compare the costs of using the 3PL warehouses for your business over a 12 month period.

Sydney Warehouse Capabilities

How much does a 3PL cost in Sydney?
icon/minus dark copy 5 icon/plus dark

For a brand shipping 1,000 small parcels a month, expect roughly A$11–A$16 per order including inbound costs, storage, pick and pack and shipping. This depends on many factors, so we encourage you to request a free estimate for your specific business. Western Sydney warehouses are usually cheaper for storage; South Sydney warehouses can be faster for metro delivery.

Western Sydney usually suits higher volumes, bulky goods and national distribution. Botany and Mascot suit importers and brands focused on fast Sydney metro delivery. Many brands find the cost difference is smaller than expected once shipping is included.

The costs that a warehouse will charge are dependent on each warehouse however a summary of the main costs can be found here.

YES. With same day despatch capabilities, all of the 3PLs we work with can meet the requirements of marketplaces.

Some marketplaces i.e. The Iconic, have very late cutoff times for same day despatch, most 3PLs can meet these requirements however it forms part of the brief for them to confirm.

Yes…all of our warehouses provide a portal that allow you to see the status of your orders as well as your inventory levels.

Some are even able to send you notifications when your inventory falls to a certain level.

No…all of the 3PLs we work with can integrate with the major ecommerce carts (i.e. Shopify, Woocommerce) as well as the major ERP and inventory systems such as Netsuite and CIN7.

If you use a bespoke checkout or ERP then it is usually possible to integrate via a third party tool or API.

This depends on what works for your business. The majority of 3PLs can accept EDI orders however they also all have a way of uploading .csv files containing orders.

Yes….the 3PLs we work with all provide a tracking number to both you and the customer.

For eCommerce orders, this is usually automatically sent back via the shopping cart i.e Shopify

Every 3PL bills slightly differently however it is expected that you should receive an itemised invoice of activity/fees.

The costs are not usually itemised for a single order but grouped by activity i.e. Storage, Inbound, Pick/Pack

YES. The majority of the 3PL warehouses we work with can do custom packing or kitting. Different warehouses cost these activities differently however all costs will be provided upfront so there will be no surprises.

Process

What does warenous do for me?
icon/minus dark copy 5 icon/plus dark

We have an initial call to capture your requirements. We then write a brief and send to relevant 3PL warehouses who we know are reliable and won’t let you down. The warehouses provide us with their proposals which we send straight to you (we don’t change any costs). We will then discuss each of the proposals with you and can then do the optional modelling of costs. Finally, we will organise a physical or virtual warehouse tour.

NO. The only agreement you will need to sign is with the 3PL warehouse once you have chosen your preferred one.

You may receive some on the same day but it can take 2-3 days as some of our warehouses tailor their rates specifically for your business rather than using off the shelf rates which can be more expensive.

YES….absolutely. We encourage it if you would like to. Many of our clients prefer us to field the questions from the multiple 3PL warehouses to save them time however it is entirely up to you.

After you have signed with a 3PL warehouse and are now onboarding, your relationship is with the 3PL warehouse and we will step back. We will always be there if you have any questions however it’s important you build a strong working relationship with the selected warehouse.

3PL Warehouse Operations

What does dimensional or cubic weight mean?
icon/minus dark copy 5 icon/plus dark

The majority of carriers charge based on the greater of actual (dead) weight or dimensions (cubic) weight. For example, a gold bullion would be charged based on dead weight whereas a pillow or suitcase would be charged based on dimensional (cubic) weight. More information can be found in this blog and we also have a handy calculator here.

In the majority of cases the answer is yes. This is to ensure inventory accuracy and to avoid time wasted by either the 3PL warehouse or yourself trying to track product. By having a barcode, the 3PL can scan the product on arrival and then ensure they are picking the right item for outbound orders. For a more detailed look at barcoding see our blog.
